This post will be a bit different than my others so bear with me! If it isn’t obvious now….I love to write. It has been something I have enjoyed since I was young. Being able to let my imagination run wild and create stories is such a joy! I love and enjoy it so much when people tell me how much they hate writing I’m truly shocked! Before I found Christ, my novels were good, but they didn’t quite feel like me. I somehow always got stuck and lost interest. It became so frustrating that I just gave up and trashed them altogether. I never involved Jesus in my writing. Never asked Him for guidance or help. Even when I did start to follow Christ, I felt myself asking how do I even involve Him in my novel while still being able to be creative and imaginative. How do I speak to others about His love and truth while still keeping the audience captivated by fantasy aspects and adventure, and yes even some yearning romance. It is hard, let me tell you, but God is good. God is creative. Look around at what He created! He wants us to think outside the box and use the gifts He blessed us with to lead others to Him. He has slowly begun to reveal a story to me and helped me through it one chapter at a time. I’m going to post the prologue and maybe even the first chapter later on! Hope you enjoy it! God bless!
Prologue
“Ms. Yost, as your publisher and as your friend, I have to be honest with you.”
Charlie felt her grip on her cell phone tighten as she tried to focus on what her publisher Nadine was trying to relay, though she already knew where this conversation was going. Charlie didn’t urge her to keep talking, just bit the inside of her cheek and waited for Nadine to continue.
She could hear Nadine’s heavy sigh on the other end. “This book won’t only be a disaster, but could likely end your career as an author. You’ve done well so far, so why not just discard this one and try something else.”
The all too familiar sting of tears pricked at Charlie’s eyes. She had poured her heart into this book. She knew God had called her to this. The late nights, the tears, the research, the doubts and worry, and yet she knew it needed to be out in the world. Charlie lifted her head to the heavens, hoping there would miraculously be a simple yes or no on her ceiling. Nothing but the off white popcorn ceiling of her run down apartment stared back. Her heart pleaded with her creator, what do I do? With that simple question, a warmth spread through her veins, a fire ignited in a hopeless vessel.
Charlie quickly wiped the tears and took a deep breath. “Publish it.”
